It was Chris Hart, an African-American singer who gained popularity as a J-pop artist in Japan who said, “All the statistics in the world can’t measure the warmth of a smile”.

While it may be true that warm smiles are immeasurable, the one from Issa to his employees could be the exception as it has been known to worth millions of dollars in land for them to build a place to live.

After all, as Anna Sewell, best known as the author of the classic 1877 novel Black Beauty put it, “It is good people who make good places”.

That Joe Issa is among those good people is indisputable, as he brings joy to the hearts of his employees by giving back to them in several ways and on many occasions with a commitment to support their development and by extension their families.

In what he called “The People Development Project” Issa has helped his staff to acquire property to build on and give their family a decent home, something which uplifts spirits and motivates workers.

In another programme of support to employees Issa makes presentations to those whose children are successful in the Common Entrance Examinations. The aim is to assist them with material to reduce the costs to them, which can be quite high for those on a budget.

In yet another window of support available to workers, Issa assists them in meeting the cost of further education, which he recognizes will aid their development and enhance work performance to the benefit of the Cool Group of over 50 companies.

And when the corporation does well so do the employees as he finds ways of giving back to say thank you for a job well done. Such rewards take many forms including prizes and surprises.

Issa, who continually gives back to schools and communities through Cool Charities, a subsidiary of Cool Corporation, sees giving back to employees not as an act of charity, but a reward for their commitment and extra effort towards the success of the company.

“Bosses don’t build companies, employees do; and when they do they must be told thank you for their effort, not only with a pat on the back and some form of memorabilia, but also with something of utility value that somehow eases the burden of living…something that meets the ideals of a fair days pay for a fair days work,” says Issa, who boasts having the best staff on the island.
